Route
Revisited the local church dedicated to Saint John, where the Gemeindefest: Ich Bin Wir [“Local Community Festival: I Am We”] was taking place, complete with a big marquee and food stalls.
I then walked towards the village of Schwarzenbach, joining the towpath along the Ludwig-Donau-Main-Kanal. This canal is now mostly disused, but once joined the Rhein (Rhine), Main and Donau (Danube) river basins. There was a village fête going on and a traditional canal boat giving short boat trips.
I continued on through the Bavarian countryside to a beautiful church in the village of Hausheim. I then visited a small chapel on my way to a campsite on the outskirts of the town of Berg bei Neumarkt in der Oberpfalz, which literally translates as “Mountain near New Market in the Upper Palatinate”. Here I planned to rest for some days.
