Route
On a another beautiful, sunny day, I set off from the picturesque town of Helmsley, after visiting two large churches. After the main stone bridge on the southern edge of the town I joined the footpath along the River Rye as far eastwards as Nunnington. I passed through woods and fields bathed in glorious sunshine.
The Nunnington Church of All Saints was founded in the 1200s and is situated up the hill from the quaint little village. From there I followed further footpaths to Hovingham, meeting Uta and Simon from London on the way, who had been attending an 80th birthday party in Nunnington and were also heading to Hovingham. We did our best to follow the limited footpath signage and got to the village around dusk.
