Today was a rest day spent in Chester-le-Street. The Ankers House museum, attached to St. Mary and St. Cuthbert’s Church, was visited, where anchorites and anchoresses lived a solitary, religious life in seclusion, giving spiritual advice to people who visited, from around 1380 to 1547 AD. It is reportedly one of only two remaining anchorages in the U.K.
